1. Who we are

Tails Abode operates the websites tailsabode.uk and the connected web applications. We are the data controller for personal data collected through these services. Our place of incorporation and registration details will be disclosed once finalised; until then please contact us at hello@tailsabode.com for any data-related enquiries.

2. What we collect

Adoption platform

• Account data: name, email, password hash, role (adopter, shelter staff, admin).
• Application data: information you submit during the adoption wizard (household details, references, home-check responses).
• Operational logs: IP address, user agent, basic activity logs (kept up to 90 days for security).

TailsAbode Kids parent account

• Parent or guardian name and email.
• Optional child first name and age band (used only to personalise the experience for the child within the family's device).
• Account preferences and parental-dashboard settings.

TailsAbode Kids extension

• By default, gameplay data stays on the device.
• Parents can opt in to sync the parental dashboard. No advertising. No behavioural profiling of children.

3. Lawful basis

• Contract — to provide the adoption platform you signed up for.
• Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure and prevent fraud.
• Consent — for marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation — where we must keep records (for example, charity verification audits).

4. Children's data

TailsAbode Kids is designed against international children-online best practices. We do not create child-only accounts; the parent account holds all data. Where a parent provides a child's age band, this is processed only to personalise age-appropriate features. We do not profile minors and do not run behavioural advertising.

5. How we share data

We use a small number of processors, contractually bound under applicable data-protection law: hosting (cloud infrastructure, EU region), email (transactional only), and error monitoring. We do not sell personal data. We do not share data with advertisers. If law-enforcement requests data we comply only when legally required and notify you where we are permitted to.

6. Retention

• Adoption applications: kept for the duration of the adoption process plus 24 months for animal welfare follow-up.
• Inactive accounts: deleted after 24 months of inactivity, after one warning email.
• Security logs: 90 days.

7. Your rights

Where applicable data-protection law gives you rights (such as GDPR for users in the EU/EEA), you have the right to: access your data; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to processing; data portability; withdraw consent; and complain to your national data-protection authority. Email hello@tailsabode.com with the subject line "Data request" and we will respond within 30 days.

8. International transfers

Our primary infrastructure is hosted in the EU. Where a processor operates outside the EU/EEA, we rely on approved transfer mechanisms (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses).

9. Security

HTTPS only (TLS 1.2+). Password hashes (bcrypt). Daily encrypted backups. Role-based access control. Internal services not exposed to the public internet. Suspected breach: security@tailsabode.com.

10. Chrome Extension — TailsAbode (browser companion)

The TailsAbode browser extension requests the following permissions. We explain why each is needed:

• storage — saves your pet's state (hunger, happiness, name, progress) locally on your device. No data is transmitted unless you opt in to parent-dashboard sync.
• alarms — schedules periodic background checks (every 30 minutes) to update your pet's wellbeing stats while the browser is open. No network access is made by the alarm itself.
• notifications — shows optional browser notifications to remind you to check in on your pet. You can disable these in Chrome settings at any time.
• scripting + tabs + host_permissions (<all_urls>) — used solely to display the small pet overlay widget in the corner of web pages you visit. The extension reads the current tab's URL only to decide whether to show or hide the overlay (certain sites like banking pages are excluded). We do not read, store, or transmit page content, browsing history, or any information about the websites you visit.

The extension does not: read page content, capture keystrokes, track browsing history, transmit data to third parties, or run any advertising or analytics code. All gameplay data is stored in chrome.storage.local on your own device. Sync to the parent dashboard is opt-in only and requires explicit pairing by a parent.

11. Changes

If we make material changes we will email registered users and post a notice on tailsabode.uk for at least 30 days before they take effect.
