We are building TailsAbode Kids in the open. Below is what is shipped today, what we are working on next, and bigger ideas on the horizon. Honest about what does not exist yet -- and excited about what is coming.
A scared, recently-rescued cat lives in the browser. Kids feed her, play with her, and watch her warm up over a multi-day care journey.
Short, age-appropriate care tasks. Streaks, missed days, and consistency are tracked but never punished.
Bite-sized, illustrated lessons about animal care, body language and welfare. One per day, under two minutes.
Parents see check-in consistency, lesson completion and a readiness signal. Designed to start a real-world conversation, not to grade kids.
The features below are not in the product yet. We are sharing them so families know what is coming and can give feedback early.
A richer narrative arc: arrival, recovery, trust, and reaching a forever home. Multiple chapters with branching outcomes based on the child's care choices, so every rescue feels personal.
Pick the species (cat, dog, rabbit, parrot...), name, fur colour, and accessories. Make the pet feel like the child's own from day one, while keeping the same care mechanics.
Celebrate consistency without competition. Calm, badge-free milestones (“a week of care”, “first lesson finished”) visible to the family, never to other children.
The first build features a cat. Other species are partly there in the extension and need their own care loops, lessons and visuals.
Long-term direction. Subject to change as we learn from families, schools and shelters.
Turn in-app care into real-world impact. Optional, parent-controlled donations of food and supplies to verified shelters, with transparent reporting on where donations went.
When a family is ready, the dashboard will surface real animals from verified animal-welfare charities on our adoption platform, filtered to a sensible travel radius.
Teacher accounts with class codes, group dashboards, and end-of-programme reports. Each child rescues their own pet; the teacher sees collective progress.
For families who do not live in the browser. Read-only parent dashboard plus reminder notifications -- child gameplay stays on the desktop extension.
TailsAbode Kids was first written in English. Spanish, French, German and Ukrainian translations are planned, with native voice-over for the lessons.
Direct partnerships with verified shelters: featured rescues, behind-the-scenes content, and post-adoption follow-up stories that close the loop for kids.
